SHIFT HANDLE INSTALLATION INFO
INCLUDED PARTS: HANDLE, PLUNGER, SPRING, 3 SHIMS (1 IS A SPARE)
TOOLS NEEDED: 5/64" Allen Wrench


AFTER REMOVING THE OLD HANDLE, YOU'LL NEED TO CHECK THE ADJUSTMENT OF RATCHET-RELEASE ROD HEIGHT. IF YOU'VE NEVER DONE THIS, THE ROD IS RECTANGLE-SHAPED AND THREADED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STICK, AND CAN BE RAISED OR LOWERED WITHIN THE CHROME STICK BY TURNING IT. (COUNTERCLOCKWISE RAISES IT.) THE BEST PRIMARY ADJUSTMENT I'VE FOUND, IS SO THAT WHEN THE INNER ROD IS FULLY DEPRESSED, IT'S JUST BARELY ABOVE THE CHROME STICK, AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE (APPROX. 1/16")


THE PLASTIC SHIMS ARE TO BE PLACED IN THE NOTCHES IN THE STICK. THESE KEEP THE UPPER PORTION OF THE STICK FROM BENDING INWARD ABOVE THE NOTCH FROM THE PRESSURE OF THE SET SCREW, AND ALSO EQUALIZES THE PRESSURE FOR A TIGHTER FIT!


WITH THE SPRING AND PLUNGER INSERTED IN THE HANDLE, PRESS IN THE PLUNGER, AND POSITION THE SLANTED SLOT IN THE PLUNGER SO IT'S CENTERED IN THE MOUNTING HOLE, AS SHOWN BELOW. (THE INNER ROD RIDES IN THIS SLOT). 

THE SHIFTER SHOULD BE IN NEUTRAL TO INSTALL THE HANDLE, SO BE SURE TO SET YOUR PARKING BRAKE!  WITH THE PLUNGER DEPRESSED, MOUNT THE HANDLE ON THE STICK. IT SHOULD DROP ABOUT 3/4". SLOWLY RELEASE THE PLUNGER, AND THE HANDLE SHOULD "SETTLE" INTO POSITION WHEN THE INNER ROD FITS INTO THE SLOT. THE PLUNGER CAN'T BE REMOVED WHEN IT'S IN THE CORRECT POSITION.

HOLD THE HANDLE IN POSITION, AND GENTLY TIGHTEN THE SETSCREW(S), AND TEST THE RELEASE BUTTON. 
A- IF IT RELEASES AND LOCKS NORMALLY, THEN GIVE THE SETSCREWS A GOOD CINCH, AND YOU'RE DONE! 
B-IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING THE RATCHET TO RELEASE TO GO TO FIRST GEAR, OR TO PARK, THE INNER ROD NEEDS TO BE RAISED. LOOSEN THE SCREWS, AND ROTATE THE HANDLE COUNTERCLOCKWISE ONE TURN, WHICH WILL RAISE THE INNER ROD. GENTLY TIGHTEN THE SCREWS, AND TEST AGAIN.
C- IF YOU FIND THE RATCHET IS NOT LOCKING OUT CORRECTLY, THE INNER ROD NEEDS TO BE LOWERED. LOOSEN THE SCREWS, AND ROTATE THE HANDLE CLOCKWISE ONE TURN, WHICH WILL LOWER THE INNER ROD. GENTLY TIGHTEN THE SCREWS, AND TEST AGAIN.

WHEN IT'S WORKING CORRECTLY, TIGHTEN THE SETSCREW(S) SECURELY! 
RE-TIGHTEN AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OF USE JUST FOR GOOD MEASURE! 

NOTE-- IF THE PLUNGER BINDS WHEN TIGHTENING THE SCREWS, YOU MAY NEED TO RAISE THE INNER ROD 2 TO 4 FULL TURNS TO ADJUST FOR PROPER OPERATION. IF IT CONTINUES TO BIND AFTER SEVERAL ADJUSTMENTS, PLEASE CONTACT US!
