MARK & LESLIE HUEFFMAN'S 1987 BUICK GN |
| No
we don't own 2 Grand Nationals! Our GN sort of has a split personality.
For cruising and going to car shows we just put on a set of new polished
American Torque Thrust II wheels & BFG T/A Radials. We also have a
set of Weld Draglite wheels and Hoosier Quick Time Pros for racing. We
run that set of wheels and tires on the street sometimes when the mood
strikes! Go to the features page for details on tire and wheel sizes.
Lots of changes were made to our GN over the winter of 1999-2000
,including a new TA49 turbo, Stage Right transbrake, interior upgrades,
rearend gear change, lots of chrome stuff in addition to the wheels and
tires.
During the summer of 2000 I upgraded to a 62mm throttle body, had the upper
plenum ported to match the TB, installed larger injectors, put on an
angle boss for the IAC and a polyurethane motor mount on the driver's
side. Check out the latest mods page
for details. During the fall of 2000 I installed a 2800 stall torque
converter and a hardened stator for the transmission. A homemade
alcohol injection kit was installed over the winter of 2000-2001.
The summer of 2001 was spent enjoying the GN and we didn't make any more
mods during this time. Over the winter of 2001-2002 we added a
3" single shot exhaust system, unfortunately I didn't like the
sound, (way too loud) so it was taken off and replaced with a 2.5"
Hooker cat back dual exhaust with Aerochamber mufflers which I like much
better! A Terry Houston downpipe that was
coated by Jet-Hot, aluminum crank pulley, RJC power plate was also
installed. I also increased
the size of the MAF sensor from 3" to 3.5" and made a 3.5"
solid MAF pipe to go with it.
UPDATE! With the purchase of a new house and business obligations, not much has been done to the GN besides maintenance from 2002 until August 2004. Now that things have settled down a bit I have bought a bunch of chrome items and just finished installing them. I have also designed and installed a chrome 3" up pipe that I have added to my parts inventory for Turbo Regal Custom Parts. I am also now running an electric exhaust cutout that allows me to go from a nice quiet exhaust to wide open with a push of a switch! This is also available for sale from my business site. The last time I raced the GN
was back in 2002 and it was turning consistent low 12's on a hot humid
day at a high altitude track. I know on a cool day it should now
be dipping into the 11's. For now, I don't plan on any more
performance up grades but you never know! CLICK ON ABOVE PHOTOS TO SEE FULL SIZED DETAILED
