INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR ELECTRIC EXHAUST CUTOUT
- Position car safely on ramps or jackstands as
you will need room to work under the car, set emergency brake.
- Install a test pipe with 3" dump in place
of your catalytic converter or remove existing dump pipe cap.
- Mount the DMH cutout with the recessed slots
facing towards you and the motor facing towards the floorboard.
Position it so there is clearance to the frame and floorboard and tighten
securely using the supplied hardware. For additional clearance you may want
to remove the floorboard shield that is there to reduce the heat from the catalytic
converter. This shield is not necessary when running a test pipe.
- You will be running the motor wire thru the
shifter cable grommet in the floorboard. You will need to remove or at
least move the console out of the way so you can get to the grommet.
- To remove console-Position the shifter in
neutral position. Remove the shifter handle by pulling the c-clip at the
base of the handle. Remove the two bolts inside the bottom of the console
storage area. Next remove the two ashtray screws. Pull off the console
plate by sliding towards rear of car and lifting up. Remove the two
bolts holding the console down that are under the plate. Remove the
plastic sliding slotted panel that the shifter stick goes thru. Move
console over the stick and set aside. There may be some wires you will
have to disconnect to completely remove the console.
- Put a slit in the floor grommet and run the
motor wire thru it.
- Next you have to determine where to mount the
supplied rocker switch. I put mine in the gauge pod that a lot of
Turbo Regal owners have at the front of the console. Another easy area
to use for the switch would be on the side of the console near the driver or
under the dash. If you have an ashtray switch panel it will need a
1/2"x3/4" slot in it and the rocker switch may be mounted there.
- Wiring is easy, find a fused lead that is only
on when the key is in the run position. Hook the white (Positive) wire
there. Find a good ground location and attach the black wire to it.
Plug your connector to the wire motor and replace the console assuring that
you do not pinch or pull any wires.
- You are now ready to run the wire to the
motor. The best way I have found is to run the wire from the shifter
cable grommet back to the transmission crossmember and attach it to the top
of the crossmember with wire ties. Run the cable along the crossmember
over to the passenger side of the car being careful to mount the wire on top
of the crossmember to keep it from melting on the exhaust system.
Connect the wiring harness to the motor and you are ready to go!
